ABB Robotics to invest $20M, add 72 jobs in suburban Detroit

Zurich-based robotics giant ABB is planning to invest $20 million and create 72 jobs at its Auburn Hills, Michigan, plant in response to the growth of automation in the automotive industry and others. The company will increase robot production at its 538,000-square-foot building, adding new equipment to its manufacturing space and renovating its offices and demonstration center, said John Bubnikovich, ABB’s US Robotics division president. The renovations at the plant, where the company has operated since 1993, are expected to be complete by November. The project is being supported with a $450,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.…

Car cybersecurity firm expects consumers to emerge as hackers

Add vehicle owners to the growing list of potential cyber security threats against automakers in 2023. Early adopters of new digitized offerings from automakers will find ways to bypass premium features by manipulating their vehicles’ systems fraudulently, according to executives from Israeli cybersecurity firm Upstream. The JD Power study found public charging satisfaction was the highest among Tesla vehicle owners. On a 1,000-point scale, Tesla scored 734. The average for all other manufacturers was 558. The Department of Energy says Tesla has almost 20,000 ports in its Supercharger network. April sales up 2.3% but still below pre-pandemic levels

New light-vehicle sales in April were up 2.3 per cent compared with the same period last year, but still below pre-pandemic levels, at an estimated 144,069 units compared with 180,616 in April 2019, according to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
