In changes effective April 1, the new division would consolidate Honda’s electrification strategy and development of automobiles, motorcycles and power products such as generators, it said. The automaker also said it would combine six regional operations to three, composed of North America, China and associated regions including Japan, the rest of Asia and Europe. Integrating the three was to “rapidly develop the implementation of resource shifts in accordance with the future lineup strategy in line with the electrification acceleration,” a spokesperson said in a briefing. The automaker anticipates its vehicle lineup in North America and China will be mid-to large…

The Infiniti showroom redesign is lounge-like

By on June 24, 2023
The lack of fresh product has put Infiniti into a multi-year slump. Last year, the brand reported 46,619 US sales, its lowest since 1992, according to Automotive News Research & Data Center. Another retailer also said he’s unlikely to pull the trigger on a store upgrade until he sees a “Cadence product that is true and believable — not just promises.” “Infiniti has been a disappointing brand for years,” Haig said. “Its dealers are not making any meaningful money compared to almost any other franchise.” Anticipating the pushback, Infiniti is pitching the redesign to its dealers as optional. “It’s not…

Toyota future EV plans include batteries with 900-mile range

By on June 13, 2023
As it prepares for its new products, factory engineers will also introduce a slew of manufacturing techniques for the 2026 EVs. Their goal is to halve the number of production processes, halve the amount of plant investment and halve the amount of production lead needed to set up for new nameplates. The new techniques will include the use of giga casting, which eliminates the countless parts and brackets by essentially casting the vehicle’s front and back as two giant modules. The under-rear section of the current Toyota bZ4X, for example, is an amalgam complex of 86 parts manufactured through 33…

Ford said May 19 that his government would offer more support. “I will confirm we’re putting more money on the table,” he said after an unrelated announcement in St. Catharines, Ont. “This is all about saving jobs and giving people the quality of life they deserve in southwestern Ontario.” The premier wouldn’t provide details on the additional amount of funding the province is prepared to provide. A Stellantis spokesperson on May 23 said the company has “no new comments or statements at this time.” “Construction remains stopped for the module building.” The plant, expected to employ 2,500 people and slated…

Polestar 3 electric crossover delayed again

By on May 20, 2023
Polestar now expects 2023 global sales volumes of 60,000 to 70,000, compared with its earlier forecast of about 80,000 units. Polestar delivered 51,491 units last year. “Given the tougher economic climate, it is difficult for us to compensate for the absence of the Polestar 3 volumes with an incremental Polestar 2 volume,” Polestar CFO Johan Malmqvist said on an earnings call Thursday. “That, coupled with high market uncertainties, led us to call down the volumes.” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said the volume forecast adjustment would also help the automaker protect the profit margin on the Polestar 2. “We are intent…

By on May 10, 2023
Social media challenges, which have steadily increased since 2020, range from silly and benign to downright dangerous and harmful. One of the latest harmful challenges to hit social media this summer is the “Kia Challenge”—and it continues to gain momentum across the country. The Kia Challenge is a TikTok trend that encourages social media users to steal Kias manufactured between 2011-2021 and Hyundais made between 2015 and 2021. These models are being targeted because they don’t come with an engine immobilizer, which is a piece of hardware that prevents the engine from starting if the matching chip in the key…
