Hoping for a deal on a new pickup truck? Inventory is piling up, and discounts could make a comeback.

By on November 12, 2025
An old, unwritten rule of car sales tells dealers and factories to work together to keep about a 60-day supply of each new vehicle on hand for sale, with another 15 days on order or in transit. That, the pragmatism says, means that dealers have the most color and feature combinations a buyer could want in easy reach. But they won’t have so many that they’ll need to discount them to sell them. Ram currently has more than a 100-day supply of Ram 1500 full-size trucks on hand.Ford F, -0.80% has more than a 90-day supply of its F-150…

Nikola battles for scarce funding as it launches its first truck

By on November 10, 2025
Like every other startup, Nikola is in search of funds to continue its mission to deliver zero-pollution cargo-moving trucks. Last week, it floated a $100 million stock offering that underwhelmed Wall Street. The company’s cash is being spent in three major areas: building trucks, creating a network of hydrogen fueling stations and developing software for autonomous driving. Any one of those pursuits would be a huge project for a startup. Perfecting all three seems like a moonshot. But Lohscheller has been able to sign up partners to help defray some of the costs. And thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act,…

Car dealership retail tech still draws investor interest

By on November 9, 2025
Retail auto technology startups can count at least one thing in the months ahead, according to Daniel Hoffer: Venture capitalists are still pursuing investments and making deals. That’s worth noting in the wake of the recent failure of Silicon Valley Bank, which used to support much of the innovation industry. Inflation and rising interest rates already had made access to capital more difficult, and some predict SVB’s collapse will make things worse. But Hoffer, a managing director of Autotech Ventures in Menlo Park, Calif., insists venture capitalist investment continues to be business as usual. “Neither auto tech nor any VCs…

Nikola Corp.‘s planned move to ramp up production of semitrucks powered by electric batteries and hydrogen fuel cells will be costly.
