Bob Loquercio Auto buys Ford, Toyota and Lexus dealerships

Bob Loquercio Auto Group has expanded with the addition of three dealerships in Peoria, Ill. CEO Bob Loquercio and his namesake group on April 5 purchased O’Brien Lexus of Peoria, O’Brien Toyota of Peoria and O’Brien Ford of Peoria from Joe O’Brien of O’Brien Auto Team, Loquercio confirmed to Automotive News. The dealerships, in central Illinois, were renamed Peoria Toyota, Lexus of Peoria and Ford of Peoria. Loquercio said his brother, Anthony Loquercio, also purchased an undisclosed stake in the Peoria Ford store. Ford Oakville plant’s switch to EVs will start in 2024

Ford Motor Co. on Tuesday said the previously announced $1.3 billion transformation of its Oakville Assembly Plant for electric vehicle manufacturing will begin in the second quarter of next year and take about six months to complete. During that time some of the 3,000 workers at the Ontario, Canada, the site will be furloughed, although the company expects to retain virtually all of the employees when the plant comes back online at the end of 2024. Rep. Darrell Issa’s bill would shorten patents on auto repair parts

WASHINGTON — US Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., reintroduced a bill Wednesday that would amend US patent laws by reducing the time automakers can enforce design patents on collision repair parts to two and a half years from 14 years against aftermarket parts suppliers. The bill — known as the Save Money on Auto Repair Transportation, or SMART, Act — would apply to automotive components, such as fenders, quarter panels and doors, and only affect aftermarket repair parts. New data shows used car prices which surged during the pandemic, are now stubbornly remaining there despite recent weakness in the market. According to the highly-watched Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index (which tracks wholesale used-car prices at dealer auctions), used car prices jumped 3.7% in February compared to January of this year, which was also higher than the prior month.
