The video game market is flooded with car racing titles, from the open-world Forza Horizon to the hyper-realistic iRacing. But a new rally game, Left! Left! Left!, is taking a different approach. Developed by Stellux Interactive, it launches on Steam next Friday, October 23. Unlike traditional racing games, Left! Left! Left! focuses on the chaotic trends between a driver and navigator, offering a whimsical and humorous take on rally racing.

This two-player asymmetrical co-op game focuses on the chaotic relationship between a driver and navigator. One player drives a sloppy hatchback, while the other handles using a physical tablet. The game lacks adjustable settings, upgradable cars, and fancy graphics, instead emphasizing the mayhem inside a rally car. This design choice ensures that players are fully immersed in the unpredictable and often hilarious challenges of rally navigation.

A Unique Co-Op Experience

Patrik Plaňanský of Stellux Interactive, a motorsport enthusiast, wanted to create a truly co-op rally game. He aimed to capture the camaraderie and tension between driver and co-driver. In Left! Left! Left!, the driver can’t see the navigation tablet, and the co-driver’s view is pitched down. The tablet’s physics-based navigation adds another layer of challenge, as players must physically hold it, and it can be dislodged during turns.

Plaňanský, a fan of motorsport including Formula 1, rally, and MotoGP, combined his passion for gaming and racing to create a unique experience. He told Road & Track, “I’ve always loved making games and creating experiences for people. Co-op games have gotten huge lately, so I wanted to try building one myself.” His goal was to replicate the real-life trends of a rally team, where communication and teamwork are essential.

The game’s asymmetrical design encourages communication and creates funny moments. Poor communication is punished, making successful coordination all the more rewarding. Plaňanský said, “I made it asymmetrical because I wanted the whole game to revolve around communication between the driver and the navigator.” This design ensures that players must rely on each other, supporting both frustration and laughter as they work through the game’s challenges.

Chaos in the Cabin

The driving experience is described as a “readable wreck”, with the hatchback designed to be slippery and messy. The game includes cabin-chaos elements, such as mud flying onto the windshield and doors flying open mid-corner. The mud is map-reactive, and the navigator must control the wipers, adding another layer of challenge. Plaňanský explained, “Mud is map-reactive, not a timer. There are mud deposits around the map, and that’s where the asymmetrical design really shines—the wipers are controlled by the navigator.” This feature forces the navigator to prioritize tasks, often leaving both players momentarily blind as they manage the chaos.

The game has already gone viral on Instagram, amassing 170,000 wishlists on Steam in just 6 days. Stellux Interactive will host a 72-hour public playtest on launch day, allowing players to join the queue directly on their Steam page. This rapid rise in popularity highlights the game’s appeal, offering a fresh and entertaining experience in a crowded genre.
