Jeep’s 2026 Grand Wagoneer now comes with a built-in, lockable in-vehicle safe available as part of optional packages like the Customer Preferred Package 29V or Heavy-Duty Trailer-Tow Package, mirroring a feature already available in its truck counterpart, the Ram 1500. The safe is concealed behind the front center console armrest and can be accessed either through an electronic code or a physical key integrated into the vehicle’s key fob. Users must slide the key fob out to unlock it manually, bypassing the need for the code.
A journalist who drove the refreshed model stumbled upon the safe only after lifting the console armrest, revealing its existence wasn’t disclosed during the vehicle’s handover. While the safe was listed on the window sticker, it received no special emphasis during the sales process.
The safe appears in two specific packages: the $6,065 Customer Preferred Package 29V, which bundles off-road enhancements like 20-inch all-terrain tires and skid plates, or the $1,995 Heavy-Duty Trailer-Tow Package, accessible even on the base trim. Neither package frames the safe as a primary selling point, though it is noted among other included features.
Stellantis has previously incorporated unusual storage solutions into its lineup. The Ram 1500, which shares underpinnings with the Wagoneer, also offers an in-vehicle safe. The automaker has a track record of embedding distinctive options, such as the Dodge Charger’s customizable ambient lighting or the Ram’s “Symbol of Protest” badges for Hemi V8 models, into its vehicles.
The Wagoneer’s safe serves practical purposes, including securing valuables, cash, or firearms from theft. Its availability reflects a broader trend in the U.S., where automakers can legally market built-in gun storage, a practice less common in other regions. Unlike some competitors, the Wagoneer’s safe is not restricted to firearms, making it versatile for protecting documents or other high-value items.
