Louisville Metro Police Department announced that a seized 2009 Dodge Charger will be crushed by a monster truck at the KFC Yum! Center on October 17, turning a theft case into a public spectacle as part of the agency’s effort to deter illegal street racing.
The vehicle was impounded during an illegal street takeover in 2024. Investigators traced its stolen components, including a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V-8, a matching gearbox, electric modules, exhaust, suspension parts and seats, from Detroit and Indianapolis before it arrived in the city, confirming the parts originated from multiple locations.
“Illegal street racing in Louisville has consequences,” said LMPD chief Paul L. Humphrey. “If you put people in danger when you’re behind the wheel, don’t be surprised when you lose your car. We made a promise to seize these vehicles and we are delivering on it. Now the public will have a front-row seat to watch another vehicle get destroyed.”

At the event, the Charger will sit in the path of Rhinomite, a 12,000-pound monster truck with a rhinoceros-inspired body. The truck, a recent addition to the touring show, is expected to flatten it within seconds, providing a dramatic conclusion to the seizure.
Police officials noted that the car offered little investigative value after the case closed, prompting the decision to incorporate its destruction into entertainment. Spectators will watch the crushing live rather than the vehicle being quietly sent to a junkyard.
The crush is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, with the KFC Yum! Center expecting thousands of attendees to witness the collision.
