The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 is set to become the new entry point to Mercedes-AMG’s dedicated electric performance-car range, with a 536-hp version that will face off with the Porsche Taycan 4S. The GT 53, labeled a 4-Door Coupe, is scheduled to reach U.S. dealerships in early 2027, positioned below the flagship GT 63 unveiled in Los Angeles in May.
Mercedes-AMG has revealed how it plans to expand its performance electric vehicle lineup — with the addition of the GT 53. The new sedan becomes the entry point to Mercedes-AMG’s dedicated electric performance-car range, while retaining the same 800-volt electrical system and all-wheel-drive layout as its more powerful sibling, the GT 63. This retention of key technologies ensures that the GT 53 benefits from the same advanced engineering that underpins the GT 63, albeit with a more modest power output.
The GT 53 uses two permanently excited synchronous units — one in front, one in back — with the front motor able to disconnect under light loads to improve efficiency.
Output falls from a combined 1,153 hp and 1,033 lb-ft of torque to a more modest 536 hp and 590 lb-ft, but the GT 53 retains the rear-mounted 2-speed transmission introduced on the GT 63. This transmission plays a key role in enabling the GT 53 to deliver its power smoothly and efficiently.
Mercedes-AMG quotes a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds versus 2.4 seconds for the GT 63. This difference in acceleration is largely due to the disparity in power output between the two vehicles, but the GT 53 still delivers rapid acceleration that is sure to thrill drivers. Top speed is electronically limited to 143 mph, rising to 155 mph with an optional AMG Driver’s Package.

Energy comes from a liquid-cooled 106-kWh lithium-ion battery using an array of cylindrical cells. Mercedes-AMG claims a WLTP driving range of up to 503 miles and DC fast-charging capability of up to 600 kW, enabling as much as 332 miles of range to be recovered in a claimed 10 minutes.
The GT 53 carries over much of the GT 63’s chassis technology. It includes an air suspension with adaptive damping and rear torque vectoring. A variable rear spoiler is standard, while an active rear diffuser is available as an option to reduce drag and improve high-speed stability. The adaptive damping system is able to adjust its settings in real-time, ensuring that the GT 53 remains composed and stable even when driven enthusiastically.
Inside the Mercedes-AMG GT 53, the performance EV has a racier, more cockpit-like layout versus mainline Mercedes-Benz offerings, it remains all-in on screen space. Like the GT 63, the GT 53 also offers simulated gearshifts with a synthesized soundtrack modeled on Mercedes-AMG’s turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-6-cylinder gasoline engine, reflecting Mercedes-AMG’s effort to recreate some of the sensory character of its internal-combustion-engine performance cars in an electric package.
No U.S. price has yet been announced, but German sales begin on August 13 at 115,430 euros ($134,000). This pricing suggests that the GT 53 will be positioned as a premium offering, reflecting its high-performance capabilities and advanced technology features. As the new entry point to Mercedes-AMG’s dedicated electric performance-car range, the GT 53 is poised to attract a new audience to the brand, offering a compelling combination of style, substance, and driving excitement.
