Rep. Darrell Issa’s bill would shorten patents on auto repair parts

WASHINGTON — US Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., reintroduced a bill Wednesday that would amend US patent laws by reducing the time automakers can enforce design patents on collision repair parts to two and a half years from 14 years against aftermarket parts suppliers. The bill — known as the Save Money on Auto Repair Transportation, or SMART, Act — would apply to automotive components, such as fenders, quarter panels and doors, and only affect aftermarket repair parts. Hyundai Motor America reported total March sales of 75,404 units, a 27% increase compared to March 2022 and the best March in Hyundai history. This was the fifth consecutive month with a total monthly sales record, led by Venue (+74%), Elantra HEV (+37%), Tucson HEV (+52%), and Kona N (+5%). The car explodes into flames as Nanaimo RCMP seeks the culprit

A suspect lobbed flammable material onto a car parked outside an auto repair shop in Nanaimo causing it to explode and burst into flames in an apparent case of arson, according to RCMP.
