Chevrolet has revamped the Bolt EUV as the 2027 Bolt, focusing on improving its charging capabilities. The new Bolt’s charging time has been put to the test, and the results show a significant improvement over the old model.
The 2022 Bolt EUV took 83 minutes to add 56.7 kilowatt-hours in a 10-90 percent fast-charge test, averaging 41 kW and peaking at 57 kW. In contrast, the relaunched 2027 Bolt completed the test in 38 minutes, adding 59.2 kWh and averaging 94 kW.
They compared the charging speed of the new Bolt to the old car, and it is more than double, peaking at 148 kW, nearly tripling the original. This increase in speed can be attributed to a change in battery chemistry, from a nickel-manganese-cobalt blend to a lithium-iron-phosphate unit.
Chevrolet also notes that the new battery chemistry makes the packs less expensive to produce. Additionally, the Bolt has switched from a CCS-type port to NACS, which is Tesla’s proprietary plug and accessible at Tesla’s Supercharger network.

The 2027 Bolt has a range of 230 miles, based on a 75-mph range test. It takes just eight minutes to add 50 miles of range, while adding 100 miles takes 17 minutes, and adding 150 miles takes 29 minutes. This is a significant improvement over the old model, which took 23 minutes to add 50 miles, 44 minutes to add 100 miles, and 82 minutes to add 150 miles.
The faster charging time and increased range make the new Bolt a more viable option for road trips. Starting under $30,000, the resurrected Bolt is a great entry-level EV, and the improved charging capabilities are a major upgrade.
